Well, from all reports, Barack Obama is about to change the US commitment to Israel. It is clear that the United States is going to make the Palestinians very happy and going to seriously damage Israel. Apparently, if not Barack Obama, at least members of his administration seem to have told the Palestinians that Jerusalem will be in the Palestinian state. I am not a Jew, but I know enough about Jews and Christians alike; Jerusalem is a symbol of their religions and their history. It is clear that Netanyahu will have a great deal of difficulty capitulating on this point. He is Prime Minister because of a strong right wing reaction in the electorate. Further, he has been a "hard liner" for a long time, and he is unlikely to be able to make that move based on his own beliefs.
Candidly, I am very concerned that the only true democracy in the middle east is being "thrown overboard" by an administration that thinks we have been biased in Israel's favor too long. I think that the American jewish community will be surprised to find that this is the likely result of the new administration's attempt to gain a middle east peace. Capitulation to the terrorist tactics of the Palestinian leadership seems to me foolish and likely to simply embolden the terror.
Palestinian governance has been a debacle. It seems to me that if this transfer of Jerusalem is turned over to the Palestinians; 500,000 Jews will need to find a new home, because I can not imagine they will be able to live under the terrorist rule of the PLO, or worse, Hamas.
