The arguments about the "soul of the Republican Party: are misguided and wasted energy. Those of us who have a view on the political and economic policies of the Obama Administration and the Democrat party; are not really interested in labels or political parties. What I am concerned about is the social and economic viability of our country. I fear for the future; not for the present. Yes, the future is bleak right now, and I am energized to stop the drift to tyranny and socialism.
Now, if you are a Democrat, and an Obama fan, then you are right now having an emotional reaction, bordering on anger and disdain. I am actually very concerned that there are far too many people in America who are so uniformed and unfamiliar with the core principles that have guided our country since it founding. The core values that President Obama claims to be in support of, are being violated daily by his tyrannical, arrogant and radical administration. His claims to defend the constitution are simply disingenuous. He wants to "remake the country" (his words, not mine) and he is on an aggressive path to do just that.
Incidentally, on the subject of Gitmo and torture; I would suggest that the grandstanding about torture is a specious, even trivial campaign, designed to denigrate the Bush administration, not designed to improve national security. Obama promised to close Gitmo in his campaign to pacify his left wing zealots, but he simply can not do that without a major shift in handling the "bad guys." Torture is not the issue: the detainees in Gitmo are in a quiet, reflective prison that simply is anything but torture. The only issue here, is how does he deal with the "optics" of Gitmo on the world stage, while keeping these people out of "circulation." Americans do not want these people on US soil, and they do not want them in their back yard. Indeed, the last thing we need is to have these people in prisons where they can further radicalize the inmates.
Obama is trying to make himself look like the great peaceful "middle ground," but it is obvious that now that he is trying to actually manage the national security issues, he is faced with the same challenges that the Bush administration faced. His attack on Cheney is laughable, and clearly reflects how weak he is on this issue.
But it is in the arena of economics that Barack Obama is taking us to the edge of disaster. The political agenda he is implementing is a financial, economic and fiscal disaster. Sorry, but the economist in me is absolutely certain that Barack Obama is creating the seeds of destruction of our capitalist society. He is the Alinsky manifestation of the Marxian dialectic. There is no doubt in my mind that, if Barack Obama gets his way ( and I think that he has the votes in Congress to do it) he will destroy our society as we have know it.
Make no mistake: Barack Obama is following the "Rules for Radicals" cookbook, and he is cooking the books on the US Economy. he will:
1) His actions will devalue the dollar to the point where it will no longer be the reserve currency of the world;
2) the US will lose its AAA rating;
3) The US will have RAMPANT inflation return soon;
4) the "stagflation" word will be on the tongues of every commentator
5) The Republicans will be blamed for all the economic woes, much ion the same fashion as FDR blamed his predecessor
6) Wealth redistribution is his agenda; and he is going to redistribute a declining wealth in the US economy; and
7) he will create a European style "perpetual recession," dominated by labor union control of the economy and low productivity, which will increase the uncompetitive position of the US in the world economy.
I agree with you, Gerry, on all of this. The thing I keep wondering about is what happens in 2010. If the economy keeps falling apart and the Democrats keep voting for everything Obama wants, is there a chance for the Republicans to retake the House by telling the country that we are going to undo the health care mess, undo the foreign policy mess, undo the Gitmo mess, undo the tax mess, and undo the spending mess. If I were running against a D in a previously R district or a competitive one, that is what I would be talking about. If the NRCC has anyone who is politically smart, they would already be drafting a game plan and talking points and recruiting candidates to do that. I hope they are.
